Finding and adopting innovations in healthcare delivery

Feb. 20, 2019 / By L. Gordon Moore, MD

Dr. John “Rick” LeMoine has an interesting role at Sharp HealthCare. He’s Chief Medical Information Officer but is not in charge of a large staff.  In fact, when he describes his lack of direct reports, I get a clear sense that this state of affairs works well for him.

On our Inside Angle podcast, Dr. LeMoine describes his role as being the person on the lookout for breakthroughs and improvements he can bring back to Sharp. He attends meetings to hear from innovators and consider how these innovations may fit into the complex environment in which he works.

The ability to perform well in this role is based on deep knowledge of health care delivery, payment, measurement, information technology, and quality improvement.  Dr. LeMoine has had many roles in both the Canadian and U.S. healthcare systems.

For those interested in how to find and screen innovations, while performing the role of vanguard clinician, listen to Dr. LeMoine describe his work on the Inside Angle podcast.
