David K. Butler, MD, FAMIA

Dr. David K. Butler is an esteemed health care executive, distinguished physician informaticist and a respected thought leader specializing in electronic health record (EHR) optimization and digital health care technologies. With a solid foundation in clinical training from Baylor College of Medicine in internal medicine and pediatrics with over two decades of experience in healthcare administration within four large IDNs across the U.S., Dr. Butler’s career is marked by significant contributions to applied clinical informatics with a focus on physician adoption, clinical decision support, and workflow efficiency. 

After a successful tenure as a hospitalist and general practitioner at Geisinger Health Systems and Texas Children’s, where he served as the first Physician Director of Epic Optimization, Dr. Butler took on leadership roles at Bon Secours Mercy and Sutter Health. During his time as Vice President for Information Services at Sutter Health, Dr. Butler was instrumental in leveraging meaningful use dollars to optimize Sutter’s 1B investment in its EHR optimization and transformation initiatives by aligning strategic health care IT projects with the organization’s overall vision and mission. 

Dr. Butler is leveraging his expertise to foster effective technology adoption within health care systems to decrease burnout and increase overall clinician satisfaction with their “digital black bag.” His work includes creating impactful population health programs, clinical decision support processes, patient portal services and physician burnout mitigation techniques, all while promoting robust clinical and IT alignment.
