Terminology standards and interoperability

Susan Matney, PhD, RN-C, FAAN, is a medical informaticist and terminology consultant with 3M Health Information Systems, Healthcare Data Dictionary (HDD) Team. Susan has more than 15 years of experience in Informatics and 30 years in nursing. She is responsible for developing HDD mapping strategies, tool requirements, and Quality Assurance (QA) for terminology development and maintenance. She authors medical information models to enhance interfaces to the HDD and the 3M Clinical Data Repository (CDR). She represents 3M HIS at national/international conferences and organizations, including Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine – Clinical Terminology (SNOMED-CT), Health Level 7 (HL7), Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes (LOINC), the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) and American Academy of Nursing (ANA). She is chair of the LOINC nursing subcommittee, past chair of the SNOMED CT nursing special interest group and current vocabulary facilitator and past co-chair of the HL7 Patient Care Committee.
