For all healthcare DIYers: Welcome to Inside Angle

Jan. 19, 2016

Dallan Huff[By Dallan Huff] — I am admittedly the least handy person on the planet. Whether cars, home improvement or any kind of repair, I tend to make a mess of things than actually fix or improve them. I look forward to having my in-laws come to town, because my wife’s stepfather will help me fix all of the things that are wrong with my car. In contrast, I have brothers who are the exact opposite; they seem to be able to fix anything. They rip out walls in their homes, build furniture and fix cars and appliances. The joke in my family is that there are some of us who break things and others who fix things.

Recently, I decided that I need to be able to do more in this area. I like to think of myself as a bright guy, fully capable of learning how to do at least some basic DIY home improvements. My first foray into this new world was fixing a funny noise coming from our dryer. Not knowing anything about appliances, I turned to the internet and quickly found an online forum that offered a video on fixing dryers, which I followed successfully. I spoke to one of my “Mr. Fix-it” brothers about it, and to my surprise, he told me that he frequents the same site. I quickly came to realize that, no matter how much experience we have with something, there is always room to learn from others’ experience and knowledge.

Health care is complex and ever-changing. Some of us are seasoned in the industry; some of us are just starting out. Whether expert or novice, we can all use insights and guidance to sharpen our understanding of the major issues facing healthcare professionals – from payment reform to value-based care and population health to coding. That’s our goal in launching Inside Angle. It’s a one-stop destination for best practice ideas, data analysis, case studies, webinars and more. The site includes our blog, now with a fresh new look, plus a gateway to information resources from a wide range of 3M HIS experts. You will get both fact and opinion from some of the brightest thought leaders in their respective areas of expertise. We welcome comments and discussion so that we can all learn together, because, unlike my home improvement efforts, what happens with health care impacts all of us, both professionally and personally.

I invite you to explore the new site. Experience new content formats that were unavailable on our previous blog site. Subscribe to the topics that interest you the most. We hope our insights will add to the knowledge that you have spent your career building – no matter what stage that may be.
